American Modernism
Through October 15th, 2008
The collection is devoted to American artists who worked during a dynamic period in American art. The period, known as American Modernism, began at the turn of the 20th century and reached its pinnacle between World War I and World War II. During this time, which had been dominated by Impressionism, many younger artists responded in a variety of ways to the modern age. Celebrated artists such as O’Keeffe began experimenting with painting by offering a subjective take on the traditional subject matter of still life and landscape. Some of the artists explored the natural world with abstract forms.
